Earth Friendly Materials

We are comitted to environmentally friendly practices. We use soy based inks, have little or no volatile organic compounds in our manufacturing process, offer loads of Earth friendly recyclable packaging, and have a disc recycling drop-off program at our facility. However, what can make the biggest difference, is the type of packaging our clients choose.

Jewel cases, DigiPaks, and plastic DVD boxes are the industry standards, and are about as Earth friendly as an oil spill. If you are ready to be a bit kinder to the Planet, choose one of our Earth friendly packaging designs, print it on recycled stock, and sleep better at night.

Here are some suggestions and options...

1. Alternatives to Virgin New Paper-board Stock ... Post Consumer Recycled Stocks

We can manufacture most of our sleeves and wallets using these stocks:
<Things to know when using recycled stocks>

CCNB style Recycled Stock
1 side coated white / 1 side uncoated grayish

Clay Coat News Back has been used for years in the food industry (i.e. cereal boxes), This stock has a white coated surface for your full color artwork, with the reverse side being a grayish uncoated color that suggests "I'm recycled". (The uncoated side can vary from light to medium gray and sometimes even light brown depending on what was recycled that day. Because it is recycled, the white side is not as white as SBS virgin stock.)

We can print on the coated or uncoated side of the stock. Most jobs print on the white coated side with the uncoated side showing through in the spine gutters and insides of pockets.

CCKB Recycled Stock
1 side coated white / 1 side uncoated brown

Clay Coat Kraft Back is like CCNB with a brown back. One side is a white coated surface with the reverse side of the stock being a medium uncoated brown that confidently says "I'm recycled". (Because it is recycled, the white side is not as white as SBS virgin stock.)

We prefer not to print onto the uncoated brown side of this stock... for that look we recommend Chipboard ->

recycled chipboard post consumer enviromentally friendly stock

Chipboard Recycled Stock
Both sides uncoated brown

Chipboard has been around for many years and screams "I'm recycled!" It is uncoated brown on both sides, sprinkled with tiny bits of ground-up post consumer waste, leaving no doubt that this is a recycled Earth friendly stock.

Because of its rich brown color, inks printed on chipboard become somewhat muted, so we recommend bold high-contrast graphics and colors. <sample jobs>

3. Alternative to the Standard DVD

...The Flexible-DVD
Being half as thick as a standard DVD, this disc contains half as much plastic, and thereby reduces the carbon footprint. Less plastic also means less shipping weight. However, it holds just as much as the standard DVD-5.
An ideal solution for inclusion in a magazine.

4. Alternatives to the Plastic Digi-Tray?

...Recyclable Fiber Trays
We can manufacture DigiPak style packaging with a molded paper-board tray instead of a plastic tray, making the packaging completely recyclable. We currently have a 4 panel and 6 panel design. They use a custom template, so call for quotes and templates if you are interested.

...Post Consumer Recycled Plastic Trays
For a small upcharge (CD size $0.07/ea, DVD size $0.09/ea) we can manufacture your packaging using recycled plastic trays. <details>

...Foam Hubs
These have become a very popular alternative to the plastic DigiTray. In our experience, these soft foam hubs do not constitute enough material to prevent the wallet from being recycled.

5. Alternative to Shrinkwrap?

...The Fiber Wafer Seal
